Demolition work is under way at the GEC Factory (formerly English Electric) on the East Lancs. Road at Gillmoss. Part of this site will become the maintenance depot for the trams.

The results of the public consultation have been released, and an impressive 90% of the 9,000 or so respondents were in favour of the tram scheme - An excellent result.

The Warrington Chamber of Commerce has called for Warrington to be connected to the Merseytram network, as well as to Manchester's Metrolink system. Trams could use the closed railway line from Warrington to Altrincham to connect with Metrolink, and the existing freight line from Warrington to Fiddlers Ferry, Widnes, Speke and Garston, where it could connect with Merseytram's proposed Line 3. Council officials said an extension of Metrolink had already been considered but had been dismissed in favour of improved bus services. Thanks to Stan for this information.

The public consultation closed today. Tramways and Urban Transit reports that over six thousand responses were logged in the first week.
